PhD. Study

Field of study: Mechanical engineering
Study program: Energy machines and devices
Form of study: full-time/external
Language of study: Slovak
Standard length of study: four/five years

Compliance with the study program

The study program of energy machinery and equipment contains basic knowledge from the field of mechanical engineering. Within the field of study, mainly knowledge about energy machines and devices is reflected. Students will acquire knowledge in the field of thermal technology, alternative energy sources, construction and modern software tools. The stated knowledge, skills and competences of a graduate of the Energy Machines and Devices study program
in the second degree of study, they are in accordance with the supporting topics of the knowledge core of the study field of mechanical engineering.

Characteristics of the study program

The doctoral study program Energetic machines and installations offers the opportunity to obtain a third degree of higher education. The third level of study, which is more narrowly focused on the problem, will create the prerequisites for the purposeful formation of the graduate's professional profile, which will take on a concrete form in the conditions of technical practice. In accordance with the current needs of the national economy, this part of the study is oriented towards the design of prototype machines and equipment, the use of alternative sources of energy (solar, wind
and geothermal energy, biomass energy, waste, etc.), research in the field of hydrogen technologies and thermal processing of waste using plasma technology. During his studies, the graduate of the department develops a systematic approach to solving technical problems, acquires knowledge in the field of design, construction of energy machines, use of modern calculation methods and is ready for independent creative and research activities.

Graduate profile

The graduate has broad professional knowledge of the given field, which serves as a basis for carrying out research, development and incorporating new knowledge into energy processes, energy machines and equipment. The qualification of the third degree of university studies in the energy machinery and equipment study program is awarded to students who:

  • they have professional and methodological knowledge from several areas of the field, practical knowledge from research work, which they acquired during internships at universities and research workplaces abroad, and which will serve as a basis for innovation, originality of ideas in practice or the research field,
  • can propose, implement and evaluate solutions to methodological, professional, practical or scientific problems from several areas of the field or practice,
  • can formulate recommendations for the development of a given scientific or work area,
  • they can create instructions, implementation projects and evaluation procedures for the department's activities and study program,
  • they can competently assess scientific or practical proposals for solving problems,
  • they can develop the ability to communicate their opinions and knowledge to the lay and professional public,
  • they can gain experience in presenting the results of their scientific outputs and pedagogical knowledge.

Application of a graduate

A graduate of the second level of education in the field of Mechanical Engineering and the Energy Machines and Devices study program has broad professional knowledge in several areas of the field, which serve as a basis for conducting research and development and creating new knowledge in the field of Energy Machines and Devices. In the relevant field of research, he can choose specific scientific methods of basic and applied research in individual fields of energy.

The graduate can formulate new hypotheses and strategies for further research and development of the field
and study program. He applies his own findings of his theoretical analysis and his complex scientific research in solving problems in the field of Energy Machines
and equipment.

Based on his outputs and findings, he can design, verify and implement new research and work procedures. Practically controls the chosen scientific methods and uses them in the development of new methodologies, procedures, technologies, technical details and important interactive system links. By using computer support, he can carry out research, analysis, modeling, measurements, data collection and processing.

The graduate is characterized by independent, critical and analytical thinking, which he applies
in changing conditions. He presents independently the results of research and development before the professional community in the Slovak Republic and abroad. It takes social, scientific and ethical aspects into account when formulating research objectives and interpreting research results. He can determine the focus of research and coordinate the team in the relevant scientific field.

Graduate of the Energy Machinery and Equipment study program:

  • is able to systematically approach solving problems arising from technical practice,
  • characterized by a high degree of independence and foresight in familiar and unfamiliar environments,
  • characterized by initiative and responsibility for managing the work of the work team,
  • characterized by innovative and creative thinking,
  • is able to present results professionally
