The study is aimed at training highly qualified experts in scientific research, development and practice in all fields and workplaces where the scientific knowledge of mechanics is applied. Their scientific erudition is mainly related to the following areas of mechanics:

Computational mechanics

Development and improvement of analytical and numerical computational methods (finite element method, boundary element method, meshfree methods), theory of modelling and analysis of mechanical systems and structures, constitutive relations with emphasis on linear and non-linear material behaviour, limit state conditions of materials and solids, mechanics of composites, smart and MEMS materials, stress analysis, bounded deformation and dynamic response of chosen classes of solids including complex solids, inverse problems of solid mechanics and identification of material, technological and other parameters, stress and strain modelling of chosen technological processes (e.g., sheet metal forming, forging, extrusion, welding, change of state, stability of structures), optimization and contact problems, interaction of structures and environment, expert systems, mechanics of micro- and nano-systems, dynamics of interactive and mechatronic systems, dynamics of vehicles and machinery, solution of chosen vibroacoustic problems, stability and dynamics of building structures, biomechanics, application of numerical methods to radiation and propagation of light, solution of bounded electro-thermo-mechanical problems, fracture mechanics, durability and reliability of structures.

Experimental mechanics

Development and application of existing methods and development of new methods, mechanical, optical and acoustic methods of verification of physical characteristics of materials and structures, in situ testing of mechanical models and structures, interactive diagnostics of mechanical phenomena by experimental and numerical methods, development of experimental methods of verification of human being and structures protection against noise and vibrations caused by transport and technology. Assessment of the safe and reliable operation of machinery and equipment taking into account residual stresses.

Applied fluid mechanics

Theory of flow of compressible and incompressible fluids, the flow of gases and vapours, nonstationary flow and impact, flow in hydraulic and power machines and equipment, interaction of structures and fluids, computer methods of solving mechanics of fluids and gases.

Applied thermomechanics

Heat and substance transfer, thermodynamic problems of the metallurgical, foundry, civil and electrical engineering technologies and heat treatment, bounded problems of heat transfer and mechanics of structures, applications in the design of thermal and electrical machines, building structures and equipment, application of the solution of thermal fields and their effects in high-power elements and equipment, power generation and distribution (classical and nuclear power) and lighting technology. Computational methods of heat and mass transfer.
