About faculty

no1The Technical University of Košice and its Faculty of Mechanical Engineering have completed more than seven decades since its foundation.. Nowadays the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering is the third largest faculty among the 9 faculties of the Technical University of Košice and it plays an important role within this University. There is studying 14% of all university students at our Faculty.

The main task of the Faculty is education of the graduates who are well prepared for a development of the next intellectual and economic growth in Slovakia, as well as for a successful answer to the new challenges that are arising within the structures of the European Union and in the worldwide globalisation processes. Education of the first-rate graduates equipped with the above-mentioned required skills is a honourable mission of the Technical University of Košice and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, as well.

The Faculty has the best assumptions to fulfil the long-time goals thanks to the well-experienced and highly qualified pedagogical staff, laboratories, top devices and hardware/software equipment. Our graduates of the all study branches are successfully employed not only at home, but also at the European and worldwide labour market.

The whole historical process, which was forming global profile of the Faculty, was positively influenced by the individual personalities as well as by the requirements of the industrial practice. It is possible to say that there are only few faculties in Slovakia, but also in the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland that were developed so dynamically as the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Košice.

On the occasion of the 69th anniversary of the Technical University of Košice (originally it was the Technical College in Košice) and in that case also of the same anniversary of our Mechanical Engineering Faculty it is necessary to express words of thanks to all who created the present form and position of the Faculty within the home and foreign rankings.

It is a well-known fact that on the present there is significantly reduced number of the technical university students due to a negative demographic development or because of other study possibilities at various private schools or abroad. In spite of this unfavourable situation our Faculty extended and revitalised not only the hardware and software equipment, but also the material and room background thanks to the structural funds and the intensive support of the University management as well as by means of the own Faculty's investments. There were established the new important workplaces at the Faculty, namely the “Institute of Automation, Mechatronics and Robotics”, “Institute of the Management, Industrial and Digital Engineering” and the Prototype and Innovation Centre”. It is necessary to emphasize a fact that these new places of work are the top workplaces, whereas they are excellent not only with regard to their innovative equipment, but also taking into consideration their professional outputs relating to the scientific-pedagogical activities.

The achieved results are reflecting the up-to-date priorities and development directions, which are defined for example in the strategic documents RIS3 or Industry 4.0. Mutual synergic interconnection between the academic education and the industrial practice belongs among the main goals of the Faculty. From this reason there is modified a professional profile of the graduates according to the actual industrial practice requirements. The Faculty also participated at three international engineering fairs during the last four years, whereas the main award of these trade fairs always priced just the exhibits presented by our Faculty. Another important success was also registered in the area of automotive production, namely in the form of a successful participation at the worldwide automotive competitions.
