The Faculty of mechanical engineering was established with the establishment of the Technical University of Košice as Faculty of heavy engineering. from September 1952 in four departments:  Department of mathematics and descriptive geometry, Department of physics, Department of mechanics, Department of general engineering. The predecessor of the Department of mechatronics (KM) was the Department of automation, measurement and mechatronics(1998-2002) and the Department of applied mechanics and mechatronics(2002-2014), where mechatronics existed as one division. The Head of the division was prof. Ing. Alexander Gmiterko, CSc.

  Heads of the department:

- prof. Ing. Alexander Gmiterko, CSc., head of the division of mechatronics (2002-2014)

- prof. Ing. Alexander Gmiterko, CSc., head of the deparment of mechatronics (2015-2019)

- prof. Ing. Michal Kelemen, PhD., head of the department of mechatronics (2019-now)
