On October 8, 2026, the Department of Metallurgy at the Faculty of Materials, Metallurgy and Recycling of the Technical University of Košice welcomed representatives of IPC Refractories along with partners from the Indian company MPR Refractories. The Indian company was represented by Rajeev Mishra and Ambuj Gupta. The visit was part of their business trip to Košice, focusing on the development of cooperation, research, and technological solutions for the metallurgical industry.
The technical session of the program, dedicated to the modeling and optimization of steel flow, was led by Assoc. Prof. Ing. Peter Demeter, PhD. IPC Refractories a. s. was represented by its CEO, Ing. Ivan Priesol, who coordinated the visit.
The guests were introduced to the department's research infrastructure and the capabilities of physical, mathematical, and numerical modeling of metallurgical processes. The main focus was placed on liquid steel flow, the development and optimization of flow control components, and the use of simulations to solve practical industrial problems. Physical models and computer simulations allow for the comparison of proposed solutions and the verification of their efficiency before industrial implementation, particularly in the continuous steel casting process.
The meeting also included a discussion on the possibilities of utilizing TUKE's laboratories and expert capacities to support the IPC–MPR cooperation. Topics included raw material suitability assessment, adapting production to local conditions in India, and future technology development. The participants discussed how combining experimental research and numerical simulations can contribute to solving specific technological challenges.
The visit provided a platform for exchanging professional expertise and developing international contacts between the university department and industrial partners. We would like to thank our guests for their interest in our faculty's research activities and for the inspiring technical discussion.
