Excursion "Automotive design and manufacturing process"

The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of TUKE in cooperation with the practice offers students the opportunity to get acquainted with the issues of development, design and production of cars directly in the centres where cars are designed and manufactured.

From 9 to 12 April 2019, 35 students from the Department of Automotive Production and students involved in the project "Disk" under the guidance of 5 teachers of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering participated in an excursion to Kunovice and Mladá Boleslav in the Czech Republic. The main goal was to visit the ŠKODA Auto plant. On the first day we visited the Evektor Kunovice plant, which, in addition to engineering in the automotive field, also deals with the development and production of aircraft. In addition to the production of small "ultralights", we had the opportunity to see two flying prototypes of the EV 55 Outback transport aircraft. We ended our visit to the plant with a tour of the aviation museum. On the second day, we visited the ŠKODA Auto development centre in Mladá Boleslav, where we saw the virtual studio and the dynamic test room. The programme also included the defence of the student project "Design of an aluminium car disc", where 8 student teams presented their three-month-long efforts in the field of designing an automotive disc. After lunch, we visited the ŠKODA Auto Museum and the production plant, where we toured the press shop, part of the welding shop and the ŠKODA assembly line. We spent the third day touring the individual departments of the AUFEER Design Mladá Boleslav design office. We got acquainted with the work in the following departments: design of car bodies and plastic parts, design of press tools and design of welding lines. After lunch the programme continued with a tour of the development centre of IDIADA CZ a.s. We got acquainted with the department of bumper design, surfacing and FEM calculations. We were also able to see the new test and testing centre. A great motivation for the students was that in each of the companies they could meet our graduates, who thanks to the project "Disk" managed to find a job in this interesting branch of engineering. Full of impressions and motivation, we happily returned to our university campus on Friday morning.
